Zoning Permits:
In Ashland County, almost all Townships and Villages have a Zoning Resolution and Map. Therefore, in many cases, residents will be required to apply for a Zoning Permit, in order to change zoning, construct, and/or make changes to a structure. Surveying and Subdivision Application Information
Once a landowner knows if they are zoned correctly, they can proceed with a survey. Click here for a list of Registered Surveyors for Ashland County (requires a PDF reader).

Type1a/1b Preliminary Review Application (PDF Form) effective April 1st, 2010. The application may also require a Plat Review Statement from the Ashland City/County Health Department (Requires a PDF Reader).

Subdivision Types

Type 1a is a subdivision of less than five (5) acres.

Type 1b is a subdivision of five (5) to twenty (20) acres.

Application for Type 1a and 1B Subdivisions: PDF Format, Word Format.

If the property involved is of acreage 20 acres or less and does not meet the requirements of a Type 1a or 1b subdivision, then it will require an application for an exempt parcel: PDF Format, Word Format.

Type 2 is also known as a major subdivision resulting in more than five (5) lots and less than five (5) acres off the original parcel of ground, or any development requiring the extension of streets or dedication of open spaces for common use. This is also know as a record plat subdivision.

Application for a Type 2 Subdivision (requires a PDF reader).

Should the property involved require a variance, then residents will need to fill out an application for a sub-division variance in PDF Format or MS Word. Prior to submitting ANY subdivision applications, please have ALL required documents from your Township available.

Building Permits:
Commercial and Industrial construction projects will require a building permit. These permits are issued by the Richland County Building Regulations Office, which administers the Ohio Building Code (OBC) in unincorporated portions of Ashland County. The OBC addresses new construction, alterations, and changes in use on projects not involving new single family residential dwellings.
