CORRUGATED CARDBOARD

Corrugated cardboard has two layers of heavy cardboard with a ribbed section between them.  To recycle, remove staples, tapes, and all foreign material.  Wax-coated cardboard is not
recyclable, but box board (cereal boxes) are.  Old corrugated is used to make new corrugated and other paperboard.

Types of recycled paper include: typing, notebook, ditto, mimeo, photocopy, computer, writing paper & envelopes.  Junk mail is also recyclable.  These types of paper are made into tissue products & other grade paper.  Glossy Paper and magazines must also be separated out.

MAGAZINES

Magazines and glossy paper  can be recycled if they are kept separate and dry.  Bundle-up stacks of magazines and/or glossy paper with twine or simply place in brown or plastic grocery bags.  Magazines are recycled into insulation.

PLASTIC

Plastic containers are marked on the bottom with recycling symbol and a number inside.  This number will distinguish whether it is the type of plastic that can be recycled in the local Ashland program.  In general, number 1 and 2's can be recycled.  Always rinse and remove lids (the lids are not recyclable).
No.1 plastic is called (PETE) polyethylene terephthalate.  A two-liter pop bottle is a good example of this type of plastic.  PETE is recycled into fiberfill stuffing, scouring pads, rope and twine.
Plastic milk jugs, bottles, and liquid detergent bottles are all No. 2 plastic.  They are made from (HDPE) High Density Polyethylene.  This plastic is used to make industrial floor coverings, drums and pails, drain tile, and plastic lumber.

Plastic grocery bags  & film plastic is also now recyclable. Place grocery bags in a clear recycling bag & put with your other recycling.

GLASS

All glass food and beverage containers can be recycled.  Rinse container and remove all caps/lids ( the metal lids are recyclable and can be put with the tin cans ).  It is not necessary to remove the label.  Your recycled glass will be made into new glass.  (window glass, pyrex, and/or mirrors can't be recycled.)

ALUMINUM

Aluminum beverage cans should be drained and have no foreign material inside.  Aluminum foil, pie pans, lawn furniture, and pet food cans are also recyclable, but must be kept separate from the cans.  The cans are recycled into new cans.
