The Corrections Division is responsible for the operations of adult detentions under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Office. The Corrections Division operates the only full-service jail in Ashland County. The new jail was opened February 24th, 2001. The facility is a state of the art podular style jail. With a capacity of 127 inmates and a staff of 34 officers, the jail was designed to meet the needs of a growing Ashland County. The current average daily population is 85, with approximately 1500 people booked into the jail per year. Being a full service jail requires us to provide many programs and activities for inmates. Some of these are: Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Anger management, Parenting Plus, G.E.D. education, full medical and psychological services, laundry, library and commissary services. Bible study and religious counseling are available as well. Inmates are provided with recreational periods, television and table games. Additional programs are Work Release, Community Service projects and Life Skills training. The jail complies with all minimum standards as set forth by the Bureau of Adult Detention. The jail has maintained a 100% rating with that bureau for the last 8 years. This is mainly due to a dedicated and professional staff. All staff members must pass a rigorous pre-employment program prior to being hired. In addition, all staff members attend a certificate Jail Academy and a minimum of 24 hours of in-service training each year.
